'Develop scientific temperament to make Manipur one of the developed states in science in technology'

Literature is a mirror of society whereas science is one of the parameters to indicate the development of society, professor S Dorendrajit Singh said.

Stressing on the need for having knowledge of science and technology in regard to the changing global scenario, director, Science and Technology Homila Hongre exhorted the general public to develop scientific temperament to make Manipur one of the developed states in science in technology.  

She was speaking at the inaugural of four-day long awareness programme ‘Year of awareness of science and health’ organised by Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) under the theme ‘COVID-19’ with support from NCSTC, department of Science and Technology at Science and Technology Complex, Takyelpat on Monday.

Attending the function as chief guest, Homila Hongre said that conducting such COVID-19 related awareness programmes would really help in creating massive awareness about the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The demonstrations shown at the exhibition by the participants are impressive, she further said, while encouraging the exhibitors. She further appealed to youths of the state to put more effort into producing innovative ideas.

The guest of honour of the function, department of Physics, Manipur University, professor S Dorendrajit Singh said that the development of state and country also depends on progression of science and technology. The development of science and technology makes life more comfortable and enhances standard and quality of living as well, he said.

He continued that literature is a mirror of society whereas science is one of the parameters to indicate the development of society. They both show the essence of human existence, he added.

The youth of the present generation should not only focus on understanding the theoretical knowledge of science but should also inculcate to transform their ideas into skills; only then they would become productive, he suggested.

As a part of the programme science exhibition, spot painting, science short play and science quiz will be conducted during these four days.

The programme was attended by director, MASTEC L Dinachandra Singh as president.
