President of the students’ body, Mayengbam Somorjit Meitei told the media on Tuesday at its head office located at Kwakeithel, Imphal West that DESAM has been working to bring quality education in Manipur since years. With the development of technology, many incidents of question leak of both HSLC and HSE examinations and others have occurred in previous years.

However, the culprits who are involved in question leak issues and others are not given any penalty as there is no law for the said crime, he said. As preventive measures of the state government to prevent such crimes, the House passed the ‘The Manipur Prevention of Malpractices in HSLC and HSE Bill, 2024.’ The students’ body welcomed the passing of such a bill and urged the Governor of Manipur to give assent for the particular bill to be converted into an Act, he added.

DESAM welcomes the initiative of the government on ‘College Phagathalasi Mission’. However, due to inequivalent numbers of teachers and students, many colleges are still remaining defunct. He appealed to the government to rationalise college teachers so that it will bring development in colleges, said Somorjit.

As per norms of NEP, 2020 students from pre-school to class V are allowed to study in their own mother tongue; however, in some schools the students are forced to use English as a medium of communication. Such practices should be avoided, he added.
