Decrying non-disbursal of salary for unskilled and skilled labours of Municipal Council for more than a year, the All Manipur Ward Development Committee Skilled and Unskilled Labour Association (AMWDCSULA) has warned of launching various form of agitation if the pending salary is not disbursed on or before October 27.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club on Wednesday, association secretary H Naoboy said that unskilled and skilled labours working under municipal council are reeling under various problems arising out of non-payment of salary for more than a year.
“The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has hit hard every sections of society and not clearing our salary even during this tough time is very unfortunate. The concerned department should at least think how the labourers will survive without salaries in this critical situation,” he lamented.
He said that the salary was not paid from the month of July, 2019 till date for Thoubal, Kakching, Mayang Imphal and Nambol Municipal Councils while for Moirang and Jiribam Municipal Council, it was not paid since August last year. As such, the salaries are pending for more than 16 months and 15 months respectively, he added.
“We have been urging concerned minister and director several times for disbursing the salary. However, our demands fell into deaf ears,” lamented the secretary.
Naoboy further said that the labourers can no longer tolerate the apathy of the authority concerned and mounted pressure to distribute the pending salary on or before October 27.
He also warned of launching various form of agitations from October 28 if the demand is not fulfilled within the stipulated time.
