Stating that the mothers do not support the combing operations that are being conducted in the Manipur valley by the Centre, the Khwairamband Nupi Keithel, Sinpham and Saktam Kanba Lup has called for deploying 10 village guards in each Meitei villages.
A memorandum of the Lup signed by its president Ksh. Shanti, secretary Thingujam Rani and Treasury Kongrailakpam Silapati, stated that the “concerned government authority must immediately put in place village guards to self-defend the war-ravaged Meitei villages in light of the list of around 38 vulnerable villages released by the state government”.
The mothers cannot accede to the government's appeal for depositing the arms taken from the police armories until fully formed 10 village guards are stationed in each Meitei village for the self-defense of the villages. It would be only logical to deposit the police arms only after the deployment of the said 10 village guards in each Meitei village, the memorandum stated.
The Lup also stated that the Centre and the state government should take steps not to compel the Meitei youths to go underground and arm themselves as such an eventuality will never bring peace and harmony in this land.
