Nupi Lal and Khongjom War Memorial Society (NLKWMS) has decried the refusal to perform their play based on Nupee Lal during the state level observance ceremony of Nupee Lal at Nupee Lal Memorial Complex.
Addressing a press conference at the Manipur Press Club on Friday, vice president of NLKWMS, Thongam Kombirei, said that they have been performing Nupee Lal drama every year since 1999 during the observance ceremony of Nupee Lal. Besides them, Nupi Lal Memorial Association also presents their play every year. But unfortunately, the state government did not shortlist NLKWMS for this year, she said.
She further said that following all the necessary procedures required in performing the drama, they have submitted documents, script to the Department of Art and Culture and home as well. Besides this, they have been practicing the drama from the last few days so that they could perform well. However, the state government not shortlisting their association is highly disheartening, she lamented.
They had approached the concerned authorities to ascertain the reason behind the rejection but didn’t get any appropriate response, she said while drawing the attention of the state government to allow them to present their performance or clarify the reason for rejecting their application.
