The All Manipur Progressive Farmers' Association (AMPFA) has demanded opening of grievance cells for farmers to address the present urea crisis in the state.

AMPFA stated on Tuesday that though urea fertiliser was distributed through MLAs and ministers, many farmers are yet to get their share. Even if it is distributed at DAO, farmers are unable to get the fertilizer due to long queues and their inability to stand for long to reach the place.

Many times, farmers had complained about the urea crisis but not a single long-term policy has been taken up. Urea shortage issue has become a common issue for the state that occurs every year despite the fact agriculture is the mainstay of the state, the association said.

AMPFA also said that until and unless the state government formulates a feasible policy and program for urea fertiliser, the problem of urea shortage will continue. The state government should open a grievance cell to receive and address the urea shortage issues in the state, the association said.
