The United Committee Manipur (UCM) on Friday termed that the death of two NSCN (I-M) cadres from Manipur at Longding district Arunachal Pradesh on July 11 as a loss and unfortunate for the state.
After witnessing such an incident even after undergoing 23 years of peace talk between the Centre and NSCN (I-M), it is high time to deliberate upon how the peace talk between the two parties is being considered, said secretary information and public relation, UCM BM Yaima in a statement issued on Friday.
“It is high time for believers of NSCN (I-M) movement to find out whom to trust; who is working honestly; who is betraying the people of Manipur and who is taking advantage of us,” it said.
It questioned whether the people of Manipur should still believe in the dividing policies of the Centre. UCM further questioned whether there are no other means except a solution from the Centre, to bring communal harmony and unity among the different communities in Manipur.
The release also questioned whether it would be utterly impossible to find a means by which different communities can collectively work together for a common future. It also raised questions whether the suspension of operation and the peace talk are means to unite the people or to disintegrate them.
It is also important to reconsider whether the two cadres lost their lives while fighting for the truth or because of trusting an outsider. The assurance of the Centre on the Naga Peace talk in the past and the present situation should also be compared and taken into concern, the release said.
RN Ravi’s plan to hold separate talks with Naga National Political Group by sidelining NSCN (I-M) can be assumed as an outcome of believing outsiders.
The UCM also questioned the Nagas in Manipur whether the fate of people from hills and valleys in Manipur should rest in the hands of NSCN (I-M) and the Centre alone.
As UCM had been constantly campaigning that people of Manipur should determine their fate instead of depending on any outside influences, the choice still stands solid till date. It is also important to consider whether the people of Manipur will enjoy the fruits of the sacrifice made by the two deceased cadres, the release added.
