The Manipur government has relaxed the curfew timings for all areas in Imphal East and Imphal West districts from 5 am to 6 pm on Thursday (August 17), stating "considerable improvement" of law and order in the two districts.
As per orders issued by the respective district magistrates on Wednesday, curfew has been relaxed in both districts in order to facilitate the general public to purchase purchasing essential items, including medicines and food.
Movement of persons belonging to essential services such as health, electricity, PHED, petrol pumps, schools/colleges, municipality, power (MSPDCL/MSPCL), press and electronic media, functioning of courts and to and fro movement of flight passengers to the airport will be exempted from the imposition of curfew after the expiry of the said period of relaxation, the administrations stated.
Indefinite curfew has been clamped in several districts of Manipur since May 3 evening after unprecedented explosion of violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities hit the state.
