Curfew timing in Imphal East and Imphal West has been relaxed from 5 am to 6 pm on Monday (August 21), in view of considerable improvement of law and order in the districts, official sources said.
As per orders issued by the respective district magistrates on Sunday, curfew has been relaxed in both districts in order to facilitate the general public in purchasing essential items including medicines and food.
However, movement of persons belonging to essential services such as health, electricity, PHED, petrol pumps, schools/colleges, municipality, power (MSPDCL/MSPCL), press and electronic media, functioning of courts and to and fro movement of flight passengers to the airport will be exempted from the imposition of curfew after the expiry of the said period of relaxation, it added.
Manipur has been under indefinite curfew since May 3 when violence started between the Meitei and Kuki communities in several parts of the state. However, it has been relaxed in several districts, citing improved law and order situation though tension continued to prevail in the state.
