The Tengnoupal Battalion has foiled cross-border smuggling in Tengnoupal district and seized illicit items worth around Rs 8.75 lakh and narcotics worth around Rs 8.60 crore in two separate incidents, IGAR (South) said on Sunday.
Based on a tipoff, a team of Assam Rifles was sent for patrolling near Chalwa Junction and the troops spotted suspicious packages in the thick foliage of the jungle on Saturday, it stated.
On thorough search, illicit items worth Rs 8.75 lakh were recovered from these packages, it stated.
The recovered items have been handed over to Customs Preventive Force (CPF) for further investigation, it mentioned.
Meanwhile, Tengnoupal Battalion foiled another cross-border smuggling of brown Sugar at Khudengthabi, Tengnoupal on August 19.
During routine checking of vehicles, troops of Assam Rifles intercepted a white Scorpio at Permanent Vehicle Check Post, Khudengthabi, it stated.
It stated that on thorough search of the vehicle, 4301 grams of brown sugar packed in 99 soap cases was seized. The narcotics were concealed inside the door panels and underneath the middle seat of the vehicle, it stated.
The seized narcotics are worth Rs 8.60 crore. The recovered narcotics along with the peddler were handed over to Moreh Police for further investigation, it added.
