The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) on Wednesday termed the counter-blockade in the valley districts as unjustified, while appealing to all the tribal CSOs and the people to remain calm and restrain from violence.
The student body stated that the Tribal Solidarity March, organised to peacefully demonstrate the unified opposition against the Meitei ST demand by the tribal people of the state, was joined by many supporters marching to register their antagonism against the Meitei ST demand.
It stated that the blockades on roads and national highways by members of Meitei Leepun will worsen the already volatile situation in the state.
The Tribal Solidarity March was a peaceful rally and there was no call of blockade or bandh by the tribal organisations in relation to the rally, it stated.
Therefore, the counter blockade called by the Meitei Leepun is unjustified, it stated.
What pre-emptive measures and preventive steps of the state government in controlling the situation needs to be seen, it added.
