CoTU 72-hour NH-2 Shutdown: Day 2 ends peacefully

The otherwise busy National Highway-2 remained deserted as all vehicular movement remained off the road except for medical services and examinations.

The 72-hour total shutdown called by the Committee on Tribal Unity Sadar Hills Kangpokpi entered its second day on Tuesday with the closure of all business establishments, government offices, and educational institutions, and the halting of all vehicular movement. 

However, firing and sounds of explosions filled the peripheral area of Kangpokpi at Phaileng village from 5.20 pm which continued till the filing of this report.

On the second day of the shutdown as well, volunteers, mainly women, were seen monitoring the movement of exempted vehicles. 

The otherwise busy National Highway-2 remained deserted as all vehicular movement remained off the road except for medical services and examinations.

Burning of tyres and putting up stones were also seen along the highway but there was no report of any untoward incident.
