A four-day regional workshop on ‘Advancing Collaborative Springshed Management in the Hindu Kush Himalayan Region’ was launched at Kathmandu, Nepal with the participation of representatives from Manipur on Tuesday.
State directorate of Environment and Climate Change joint director T Brajakumar Singh took part as an Indian delegate in the workshop organised by International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), stated a release.
At the panel discussion that was held as a part of the workshop, Brajakumar talked about the urgency of science based policy for protection and rejuvenation of springs in the state which can formulate an action plan with a climate resilient solution, it stated.
It stated that keeping in view of the limited capacity and resources in the state, all the international organisations like ICIMOD, etc. need to extend their cooperation to the state of Manipur and NE states as well to revive the springs.
An agenda of an umbrella pilot project for Regional Springs Rejuvenation (Nagaland - Manipur – Mizoram) as a component of Climate Resilient Solution programme was also laid forth during the workshop by the joint director, it mentioned.
The workshop was attended by administrators and researchers from Hindu Kush Himalayan (HKH) Region such as Nepal, Bhutan, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, Myanmar, etc., it further stated.
Other members who took part in the workshop from Manipur as Indian delegates are senior engineers from the Water Resource department, Manipur and one community leader from Ukhrul, it added.
