A construction worker, hailing from Lamding Cherapur under Thoubal police station in Thoubal district, was found dead at Dergaon in Assam, after he reportedly left home to work at Kakching district in Manipur, sources said.
According to police, the deceased has been identified as one Yendrembam Kenedy, 39, son of late Manisang. An injury mark was found on the neck of the body, police stated.
A team of Thoubal police arrived at his home around 1 pm Wednesday and informed his family members about it.
Assam police ascertained the deceased’s identity and address after going through his voter card found on his body, and contacted Thoubal police afterwards.
Assam Police informed that the body will be disposed of after following legal procedures unless family members claim it within three days, police stated.
Family members expressed that Kenedy was a manual labourer and employed as a construction worker at Kakching district. He had left home on the morning of Monday, telling the family members that he was going to the workplace in Kakching, they said.
On the same day, he called up his wife and spoke to her. He had switched off his phone and made no further contacts afterwards, according to his family. After getting the news of his demise, the family members were headed to collect the body in Assam.
Details of his death are yet to be ascertained, police said. He is survived by his wife, a 21-year-old son and a 17-year-old daughter. He was the sole breadearner of the family, sources said.
