A police constable allegedly bludgeoned his wife and daughter to death with a cudgel at G Gelbung village and under Sapermeina Police Station in Kangpokpi district around 2 am Saturday.
According to police, the accused has been identified as one Holkhomang Haokip, 35, son of (L) Thangkhongam Haokip from G Gelbung Village under Sapermeina Police Station in Kangpokpi district. He was posted as a police constable at Kangpokpi Police Station and was on leave, citing mental illness. The deceased wife and daughter have been identified as Tingbem, 45, and Neichingthem, 9, respectively.
According to Sapermeina Police Station, both the victims were found lying dead at the compound of their residence.
A team of State Forensic Science Laboratory from Imphal arrived and examined the crime scene at the time of filing this report. The bodies will be transported to RIMS Mortuary for conducting post-mortem.
Holkhomang had consumed poison following the incident, and he is being treated at JNIMS. He was brought to the Security Ward but as there was no room available, he is now being kept guarded by four security personnel of Sapermeina Police Station.
The incident happened in the wake of another gruesome killing on Wednesday when a woman was bludgeoned to death by her husband with a hammer at Terakhong Thoubal Leikai under Kumbi Police Station in Bishnupur district.
