Congress to highlight Manipur issue in upcoming Parliament session

To discuss the issue of Manipur, CLP leader O Ibobi stationed in Delhi along with central party leaders.

The Congress party is ready to bring up the issue of Manipur in the upcoming Parliamentary session and to discuss the same, Manipur Congress Legislative Party leader O Ibobi is already stationed in Delhi with the central party leaders, Congress MLA K Ranjit on Saturday.

A team of mediapersons visited relief centres set up at Sugnu and Serou area and met with senior Congress MLA K Ranjit.

On question regarding the present status of the state Congress party, Ranjit said that the state Congress party, along with other nine like-minded political parties, has been requesting the Governor of Manipur to summon a special session of the state assembly in order to discuss the present crisis of Manipur.

He said the present issue could be solved constitutionally. If the 10 MLAs do not want to join the special session, then the remaining 50 MLAs, including the chief minister, can continue the session, the Congress MLA said.

Ranjit said the Congress party is ready to highlight the present issue of Manipur in the upcoming Parliamentary session.

However, since Rahul Gandhi is not allowed to enter Parliament, the party leaders are ready to highlight the issue, he added. And to discuss the issue of Manipur, CLP leader is already stationed in Delhi along with the party central leaders, he informed.

The Opposition MLA asserted that “the Congress MLAs are ready to resign from MLA if our resignation can save Manipur and can bring normalcy”.

Meanwhile, clarifying the allegation of state BJP leaders that Congress MLAs failed to turn up to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to Manipur, Ranjit said on May 28, the Congress MLAs went to Delhi to meet the President of India.

The appointment to meet the President was received and scheduled on May 30 morning while the Union Home Minister reached Imphal on May 29.

On May 31, the Congress MLAs reached Imphal and submitted a written note seeking an appointment to meet the Union Home Minister. The opposition sought the appointment till May 1 to meet the Union Home Minister but they were not given the schedule, he said.

To discuss and highlight the issue of Manipur, the Congress party met the President of India along with nine other like-minded political parties and were stationed in Delhi for more than 11 days, seeking an appointment to meet the Prime Minister.

Although they met the president, they were not given the appointment to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he added.
