Various organisations and associations continue to extend their condolences over the untimely demise of Aheibam Birendra who passed away after battling with a prolonged illness on Friday.
NK Sanajaoba Memorial Trust extolled Biren Lamba, who was a former trustee member, asserting that his contribution in various activities for a unified Manipuri is still known to many, stated a release. The Trust held a condolence meeting honouring his contributions towards Pan Manipuri as a people and as an ideology, it stated.
His untimely demise has left a vacuum in the ongoing movement of unified people in the ‘Western South East Asia (WESEA)’, it said, adding that the imprints of his works will remain as an integral part of the Trust. Members also gave salutes to the departed soul and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, it stated.
Born on October 1,1947 at Chingamakha Heirangoithong Aheibam Leikai, Birendra was also one of the founding members of Pan Manipuri Youth League (PANMYL), formed in 1968 at Gauhati University, it noted.
It highlighted his contributions to the society stating that he taught English Literature in Oriental College, Imphal. He also served as the Director of Arts and Culture, Government of Manipur; Chairman of Manipur Film Development Corporation as well as Chairman of North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur, Government of India, it mentioned.
Meanwhile, Human Rights Alert (HRA) also condoled the untimely demise of Aheibam Birendra and shared condolences with the bereaved family.
Fondly known as ‘Biren Lamba’, he was a person of rare intellectual calibre who can harmoniously blend our indigenous knowledge system with that of the modern scientific one, said HRA Executive Director Babloo Loitongbam, in a release.
HRA will, forever, remain indebted for his pioneering work of rendering Chimarol Puya into English language, it asserted. It is through his painstaking work that HRA have been able to proudly present the depth of the Meitei civilizational values to the world of contemporary International Humanitarian Law, it stated.
Birendra’s passion for Manipur and compassion of its people is matched only by his modesty and humility and the void that this gentle soul has left will be felt not only by this generation, but also by many more generations, it added.
Meanwhile, Lamyanba Publications convened an emergency meeting wherein its members paid condolences to Birendra and observed two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul, stated a release.
They also shared grief of the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest peacefully in heavenly abode, it said.
