Kuki Reformation Forum (KReF) lodged a complaint to officer-in-charge, Cyber crime police station, Manipur to take appropriate action against uploading of defamatory posts on social media against a particular religion or community.
Chairman of Kuki Reformation Forum (KReF) TS Haokip lodged the complaint at Churachandpur police station on Friday in regards to Religious Blasphemy (Article number 25-28) and hate speech inciting communal hatred (article number 14, 29, 30 ad 46) on social media (Facebook) by some users.
In the complaint, names of six Facebook users were mentioned including the comments they posted on social media. It mentioned that their posts which also included pictures were hateful, pornographic, defamatory, offensive and provocative towards a religion (Christianity), a particular community, and posed a challenge to the Indian constitution.
It further appealed to the authorities concerned to take necessary action against the accused Facebook users in order to maintain communal harmony and peaceful co-existence.
Speaking to the Imphal Free Press over the phone, Haokip expressed that any individual should not misuse the Right to Freedom of Speech and Expression and violate the law.
In case of any misunderstandings, they could be solved in a peaceful manner instead of trying to create enmity among communities, he said, appealing to the people of each community to have mutual respect for one another.
Officer-in-charge, cyber crime police station, told the IFP that the police station has acknowledged the issues verbally; however, the written complaint is yet to be received.
