Speaking in a press meet held at Manipur Press Club on Wednesday, secretary of Koutuk, Senjam Khunou development committee and NSU construction demand Committee, Manipur Maibam Suninkumar said that Koutruk and Senjam Khunou of Imphal West donated the land for construction of NSU without taking any compensation.

After the foundation stone was laid by the Prime Minister in March 2018, the construction was started but stopped due to alleged claims of land located at Konsakhul, he said.

The issue can be resolved by using the information available on the 1960 land settlement record, he said. “Do not push the issue as an election game,” he added.

He alleged that Haraothel village is a recently established village; the land has always been part of Haraoching Hills of Koutruk village. Therefore, the varsity should be named National Sports University, Koutruk, he added.

Suninkumar said that the NSU land is the purely of 47-Koutruk and 40-Senjam Khunou, Imphal West.

If the state government rechristened the NSU to Konsakhul, then strong agitations will follow, Suninkumar said
