The Tombisana High School Managing Committee on Thursday opposed the state government move to convert the erstwhile school campus located in the heart of Imphal city into a market shed in the name of policy programme.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club in Imphal, committee president TM Rajen Ayangba informed that the school was established in 1897 and is acknowledged as the third oldest high school of the state, thus bears a historical importance of Manipur.
“Such illoRahul Gandhi Defamation Case: Manipur Congress holds protest in Imphalgical step is considered an attempt to erase a part of history and the upcoming generation will not spare us if Tombisana High School is erased from its existence,” he said.

Countering the state government’s move to abolish the school without giving any information to the managing committee, who are the tax payer of the land, he said such an overpowering act is not a nature of a democratic government.
The silence of CSOs and students bodies in this aspect is indeed surprising; he said, seeking the support of the CSOs, students bodies and the general public in safeguarding the existence of the school.
It is worth mentioning that on December 26, 2014 eight human skulls and other skeletal remains were found from the then school complex during a construction work. The school was occupied by the central paramilitary forces during the peak of insurgent activities from 1980 to 1999.
