The Loktak battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South), in a joint operation with the Manipur police, on Wednesday apprehended six insurgents, including the defence secretary and external affairs of proscribed group Hmar People's Convention (Democratic) LK Hmar Faction in Rengkai village, Churachandpur district.
Based on specific input from reliable sources, troops of the AR along with the Manipur police launched an operation which led to the apprehensions, said IGAR in release.
It stated that the combined team recovered one 9mm Sig Sauer pistol along with two magazines and 19 rounds from the apprehended insurgents.
The insurgents have reportedly been involved in various anti national activities in the past, it said, adding that the apprehended insurgents and recovered items were handed over to Churachandpur police station for further legal action.
In another joint operation, the Churachandpur battalion of AR with the Manipur police foiled a cross border smuggling of narcotics in Churachandpur on Thursday, the release mentioned.
The team intercepted a Bolero vehicle at the Mobile Vehicle Check Post near Tuilehluan village, Churachandpur and on thorough search of the vehicle, 840 grams of brown sugar in 70 soap cases were recovered from a hidden compartment near fuel tank of the vehicle, it said adding that the seized narcotics were assessed to be worth Rs 1.68 crore.
The recovered items along with the drug peddlers were handed over to Churachandpur police for further investigation, it added.
