COCOMI spokesperson Kh Athouba to attend Rights Council in Geneva

COCOMI and The International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) of Kangleipak, Manipur have appointed Kh Athouba to raise the voices of the people of Manipur and to create awareness about the human rights violations happening in the state of Manipur, a release stated.

The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) said the committee’s spokesperson Khuraijam Athouba will be representing the voices of indigenous peoples from the Northeast region of India, specifically from Manipur, at the ongoing 55th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council currently taking place at the United Nations Office in Geneva, Switzerland.

A statement issued by the COCOMI on Friday stated that Athouba will participate in the session and present interventions at important debates. Additionally, he will attend meetings with dignitaries from some of the council’s member states and international organisations, it stated.

It mentioned that Athouba also represents an International Organisation which has ECOSOC special consultative status with the United Nations. The COCOMI and The International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) of Kangleipak, Manipur have appointed him to raise the voices of the people of Manipur and to create awareness about the human rights violations happening in the state of Manipur with the hope that the international community will stand by us to bring peace and stability to the region, the statement read.

The 55th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council began on February 26 and will conclude on April 5, it mentioned. The Human Rights Council is the international apex body of the United Nations that addresses and resolves issues related to human rights violations worldwide, including social, cultural, and economic issues and issues related to indigenous peoples, it added.
