COCOMI disappointed over political parties not declaring stand on demand for 'Special Status' for Manipur

A memorandum was submitted to all political leaders of the state on January 19, 2022 urging them to disclose the stand of their demand before the forthcoming election, COCOMI stated.

The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has expressed disappointment over political parties except Manipur State Council, Communist Party of India (MSC/CPI) and JD (U) for not declaring their stand on political autonomy which the committee had urged to do so before the upcoming election.

In a press release issued by COCOMI on Sunday, the Committee stated that representing people of state, they have been demanding for special political status for state. The demand was made with a view that attending political autonomy is the solution of various issues plaguing in the state, they stated.

The release further stated that a memorandum was submitted to all political leaders of the state on January 19, 2022 urging them to disclose the stand of their demand before the forthcoming election. But unfortunately all the political parties remained mute till date despite the fact that just less a day is left for election. Nevertheless MSC/CPI and JD (U) extended their solidarity with the demand by assuring to support until the demands is materialise, they said.

The committee highly appreciates the said parties, it added while stating that such support really encourages them to fight for the cause.

The release stated that many conflicts are occurring in the state and amid this situation, political parties remaining silent as irresponsible leaders would only lead a future of state at stake. It is high time that leaders of the state address the issues from core and not at superficial manner, the committee stated. 

After consulting various experts, the committee decided that providing political autonomy is the key to resolve all the issues of the state. As such leaders of the state should relook upon the demand made by the committee, it added while appealing to all political parties to do politics with sincerity.
