Coast Guard officers from Manipur get promotion

Two commandants from Manipur - Nongmaithem Ranajoy Singh and Ronald Gangmei were promoted to full commandant rank (section grade) after reaching eligibility of 15 years in the service on February 26.

Two Indian Coast Guard officers from Manipur were promoted to full commandant rank (section grade) after reaching eligibility of 15 years in the service on February 26.

A statement said that the two commandants are Nongmaithem Ranajoy Singh, son of late N Kamni Singh from Sagolband Tera Sapam Leirak, Imphal West and Ronald Gangmei son of Makuchai Gangmei from Kakhulong, Paona Bazar, Imphal West. The Indian Coast Guard is an Armed Force of the Union under the Ministry of Defence, it stated.

It mentioned that commandant Nongmaithem Ranajoy Singh an alumnus of Naval Academy, Mandovi, (Goa), had joined the Indian Coast Guard as assistant commandant (Direct Entry) in 2006. He is a general duty officer and has commanded Coast Guard Ships ICGS C-143 and ICGS Rajratan, it continued.

The officer has also been commended twice by the director general of the Indian Coast Guard for saving many lives in two Search and Rescue Operations, one in the Andaman seas in 2012 and the other off the Gujarat coast in 2016, it mentioned.

The officer had also held a key appointment as Staff Officer to the Inspector General at Coast Guard Regional Headquarters in Mumbai before being transferred to the present appointment and presently, the Officer is the executive officer (second in command) of a capital Coast Guard ship based at New Mangalore, it added.

It stated that commandant Ronald Gangmei who is an alumni of Sainik School Imphal and
Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, had joined the Indian Coast Guard as Assistant Commandant (Direct Entry) in 2007. The officer is a Qualified Navigation Instructor and has clocked about 3,000 flying hours and has commanded coast guard ships ICGS C-142 and ICGS Amogh, it continued.

He is a recipient of the Director General Indian Coast Guard Commendation, awarded for Search and Rescue Operations in 2013 and was also awarded the DGICG trophy for best under trainee assistant commandant at the Naval Academy (Goa), it informed.

At present, he is tenanting for duties of Joint Director Air - Operations at Coast Guard Headquarters New Delhi, it added.
