CM extends Mera Hou Chongba greetings

In his wishes, the Chief Minister said that the festival celebrated on the full-moon day of the lunar month of Mera, in the Meitei Lunar calendar, fosters and promotes unity in diversity and a prosperous Manipuri society.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday extended wishes to the people of the state on the auspicious occasion of Mera Hou Chongba festival, which symbolises the fraternity amongst the communities of the state.

In his wishes, the Chief Minister said that the festival celebrated on the full-moon day of the lunar month of Mera, in the Meitei Lunar calendar, fosters and promotes unity in diversity and a prosperous Manipuri society.

The festival holds much significance today, when the collective Manipuri society is warding off divisive forces inciting ill-will and enmity amongst the people, he asserted.

He wished that the festival of oneness, open a new chapter of reconciliation and peaceful co-existence in the state.

‘The tradition of sharing and exchanging gifts during the festivities of Mera Hou Chongba can serve to rebuild the community bonding which will certainly help in instilling pride and a sense of belongingness towards Manipur’, the Chief Minister stated.
