Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh has lauded the great women of Manipur for their achievements in bringing laurels to the state.
In a series of tweets, the chief minister on Tuesday congratulated the woman achievers - Padma Shri awardees from Manipur - Lourembam Bino Devi and M Muktamani Devi, and Olympic medallist from Manipur Mirabai Chanu on winning the BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year 2021.
President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday presented the Padma Shri Award for Art to Lourembam Bino Devi and M Muktamani Devi was conferred the Padma Shri in Trade and Industry.
“Hearty congratulations to Smt. Lourembam Bino Devi on being awarded the 'Padma Shri' for Art. Smt. L Bino Devi is the oldest expert in the traditional method of applique art, "Leeba" and has been assiduously working to revive this cultural asset for the last 53 years,” Biren tweeted.
In another Twitter post, he said: “Heartiest congratulations to Smt. M Muktamani Devi on being conferred the 'Padma Shri Award' in Trade & Industry. Coming from humble beginnings, Smt. Muktamani Devi is now the proprietor of Mukta Shoes Pvt Ltd, Kakching which manufactures unique woollen shoes”.
The chief minister also congratulated Olympic medallist from Manipur Mirabai Chanu on winning the BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year 2021. He extended his best wishes for upcoming Commonwealth Games, 2022.
“Congratulations @mirabai_chanu on winning the BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year 2021. My best wishes to you for the upcoming Commonwealth Games, 2022. Train hard and give your best,” Biren tweeted.
BBC had announced, “The winner of the BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year 2021 is Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu”.
