Demanding the state government to release the pending honorarium of nine months for mid-day meal workers at the earliest, Mid-Day Meal Workers’ Union Manipur (MDMWUM) on Wednesday threatened to launch various agitations if the state government fails to materialise their demand within five days.
The mid-day meal workers have not been receiving their honorarium from the month of July 2020 to March 2021, said president, MDMWUM Y Indrani Devi in a press conference held at its office, Irawat Bhawan.
As a response, the authority concerned made the assurance to clear their honorarium in the month of February, she said.
Even the zonal education officers informed them that honorarium for three months will be released soon but it has not been released for a single month this year, she said. Condemning the alleged negligence shown by the government in their demand, the union resolved to launch various forms of agitation if the pending honorarium is not cleared within five days, she added.
Indrani said that there are around 9,651 mid-day meal workers in the state. The amount of honorarium is just Rs 1,000 per month and given only 10 months a year. But the state government has never disbursed it for once, she added.
