Churachandpur Medical College to start session from October: Health Minister Sapam Ranjan

The Churachandpur Medical College will have 100 MBBS seats as approved by the Medical Council of India.

Manipur Health Minister Sapam Ranjan on Sunday said the newly constructed Churachandpur Medical College will be inaugurated soon by the chief minister and that classes will begin from October, 2022. The health minister inspected the college on Sunday.

The college will have 100 MBBS seats as approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI).

Briefing the media, the minister termed it fortunate that the state has added another medical college.

"This is the first medical college of the state which is established in the hill districts of Manipur and this visit also relates with the arrangement for inauguration within a short period of time. It is now ready for inauguration," he added.

During a formal programme on the occasion of the inspection, the minister told the stakeholders that it’s a challenge for all as the college will be inaugurated a few days from now, at a time chosen by the CM with permission obtained for the inauguration from the concerned authorities.

He also told the doctors, especially the junior faculty members, to do their best as professors will not come every day and that classes are likely to start from October 2022.

There may be shortcomings as was in big medical institutes like AIIMS such as faculty issues but with cooperation from all, such issues can be addressed to make the college a success, the minister said.

MLA Khaute said that Churachandpur district is privileged to have the Medical College which came due to the initiative of CM Biren and PM Narendra Modi. This is good for the district as well as the state, he said, adding that the future is bright with talented faculties and senior director leading the college from whom the people expect a lot. He asked all to join hands to make the college a success.

Add CS (Health and Family Welfare) Vumlunmang Vualnam said furniture for the classrooms and the likes will be arranged soon and that open counselling, where students will choose from among the three medical colleges in the state, will also be started soon. He called on the administration to do their best so that the Churachandpur Medical College will not be the last choice of the students.

The health minister was accompanied by Churachandpur AC MLA LM Khaute; Vualnam; Director of Health and family welfare Dr Sashi Kumar; Director of Churachandpur Medical College Dr (Prof) S Iboyaima Singh; DC of Churachandpur Sharath Chandra Arroju and people from the construction company.

The team inspected almost all the rooms of the medical college, including dissection hall, clinical physiology lab, haematology lab, histology practical hall, seminar cum library hall, anatomy museum, professor room, classrooms, etc.

On August 23, the Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission had approved 100 MBBS seats for Churachandpur Medical College, sending the permission letter to Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

“In yet another great news for the state, I have just received the Letter of Permission for 100 MBBS Seats for Churachandpur Medical College. With this permission being granted, we can start the admissions process,” the CM had posted on his official Facebook page.

A letter addressed to the dean/principal, Government Medical College, Churachandpur, by member/president of Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB), National Medical Commission stated that the dean/principal and the institution is fully responsible to fulfil and maintain norms including the infrastructure, both physical and human resource, teaching faculty and clinical material, etc. throughout the academic year as stipulated in Regulation of NMC.

In case false/wrong declaration or fabricated documents have been used for procuring admission of the MARB and the said misconduct is brought to the notice of the NMC or found during surprise assessment at any stage during the current year, your institution is liable, not to be considered for recognition of the degree. This letter of permission will be revoked for the current academic year in such exigency arises, the letter stated, adding that the NMC is entitled to take all such measures against the dean/principal and the institution as permissible under law.

The letter also notified that it is mandatory to develop a biometric attendance, website on the medical college/institution and display all information of the college, courses offered, faculty available and their experiences of the last five years, students joined and affiliating university.

The letter called for displaying the hospital services, facilities available and the equipment in each specialty and show OP, IO Census, including births and deaths as per the municipal/government records.
