The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) on Friday alleged the Thursday night incident in Churachandpur district was done due to the apprehension following the CM’s announcement of 1961 as the base year of NRC and also taking the advantage of suspension of a head constable of Churachandpur district police.

Coordinator of COCOMI, Somorendro Thokchom, told the media at the committee’s office located at Lamphel, Imphal that the Indigenous Tribal Leader’s Forum (ITLF) and those who were involved while burning down the government offices should be booked within seven days.

If the central government fails to book the culprits involved in Thursday night’s arson incident, the people of Manipur, who are citizens of India, might launch agitation against the central government, he said.

The ITLF alleged that Churachandpur SP Shivanand Surve and District Magistrate, Churachandpur, S Dharun were responsible for arson of the mini secretariat, SP quarter and office and that the two must leave the district within 24 hours, Somorendro said. What is the hidden agenda of the state and central government for not being able to take necessary action against ITLF, he questioned.

The state and central government should book the culprits involved in the arson incident including ITLF within seven days, he demanded.

Recently, CM Biren announced that base year of NRC in Manipur will be 1961 and with that apprehension, the Kuki Narco terrorists arsoned mini secretariat of Churachandpur to destroy various important documents. COCOMI will take the incident as a plan of Kuki narco terrorists so that they could stay longer after NRC in Manipur, he added.

When three ZEOs were suspended, no agitations were carried out however, when one head constable was suspended, who was allegedly involved with Kuki militants while attacking valley people, Kuki narco terrorists intentionally destroyed and arson district SP’s quarter, office and mini secretariat. COCOMI strongly condemned the heinous act, said Somorendro.
People across the country have started knowing the fact of last year’s Independence Day (August 15) drama conducted at Kuki inhabited area as on Thursday incident in Churachandpur the agitators were seen dishonouring the national flag, he said.

Somorendro continued that another incident occurred recently at Moreh where Kuki militants pointed guns and bombs towards a convoy of the Indian army. Instead of acting against the action of Kuki militants, the army convoy retreated from the place. If people in the valley area take out democratic forms of agitation, then central forces will take intensive action to control the agitators, he said. And when agitators burnt the mini secretariat, SP’s office and quarter in Churachandpur district no timely action was taken up against the agitators, he added.

COCOMI is ready to send a letter to the chief of Indian Army highlighting the bias act of central forces, said Somorendro.

The role of Kuki immigrants has come into a clear stage, and time has come for both the state and central governments to take appropriate action to end the ongoing crisis, he said.

And to stop the ongoing crisis instigated by Kuki immigrants who came to Manipur before 1961, both the state and central government should take immediate action. And the central government should abrogate SoO with Kuki militants that the state government had already abrogated, said Somorendro.
