One of the most well known, performing chief medical officers of Churachandpur and who held the post during the first and second wave of the pandemic, Dr Vumchinpau Tonsing alias VC Pau Tonsing handed over the charge to Dr T Nengkhanmang on Wednesday.
Known as a ‘COVID-19 Hero’ by many for his dedication, accessibility, vision, perseverance and concern for the Churachandpur district in particular in the fight against the disease, Dr Tonsing's retirement on attaining superannuation ended on Monday.
Dr Tonsing was also called an 'Iron Man' by the present DC of Churachandpur due to the fact that he was always available.
A farewell and a thanksgiving programme for the outgoing CMO was held at the GNM hall. It was attended by staff of Medical department.
“I felt so small to fit in his shoe as he did so well,” the new chief medical officer said and urged for cooperation from the medical staff of the district.
Dr Tonsing had just recovered from COVID-19. He thanked the medical staff and the media for the help rendered to him especially during the pandemic.
“I am thankful for the support from all the medical staff. It is because of you that we have accomplished things, be it working from 5 am to 1 am at one time during the pandemic... Out of COVID-19, I got the good name but the work is done by my medical staff,” the outgoing doctor said.
