Former Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi on Saturday said that timely intervention by the Centre in the ongoing crisis in Manipur would have saved many precious lives and prevented extensive damages.
Speaking to the media after paying tribute to the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, on his 59th death anniversary observance at Congress Bhawan in Imphal, Ibobi said that if the state government is unable to control a situation, it is the responsibility of the Central government as a parent body to intervene the matter.
And the delay in the intervention seems that the Centre is letting the people of the state suffer, he alleged.
"Sorry to witness that the central leaders are emphasising on matters like distribution of appointment letters in Assam while Manipur is burning," he said, adding that if the central leaders are confined to other works, they should have atleast sent some appropriate authority on their behalf during the initial days of the crisis.
As there is no hope from the Central leaders the Congress party had decided to apprise the matter to the supreme leader, the President of India, for her intervention to restore normalcy in Manipur, added the CLP leader.
Meanwhile, MPCC said in a release by the MPCC stated that appointment seeking for President of India with the team of MPCC and team of AICC to be led by Malikarjun Kharge is underway in New Delhi.
The MPCC team is ready to submit a memorandum through AICC to President Droupadi Murmu on the matter of present large-scale violence in Manipur, it said, adding that the meeting may happen in a few days’ time.
According to the release, the meeting with the President will be participated by all the five sitting MLAs of Congress, CLP leader Gaikhangam and vice-president of MPCC Harishwar Goshwami from MPCC.
