The Manipur People’s Democratic Front (MPDF) on Sunday slammed the Central government for allegedly remaining a mute spectator to the prolonged crisis in Manipur and condemned the Central government’s alleged failure to initiate swift measures to resolve the whole debacle.
“Their silence is deafening; they are just standing by even when Indian citizens are being targeted by suspected foreign nationals,” the front stated.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul MPDF working president N Mahendra expressed disappointment that the Central government had not dispensed any measures though the issue had been ravaging the state for nearly 40 days.
“The government’s failure to bring an end to the whole issue reflects their step-motherly perspective on problems plaguing the north-east region,” he said.
On reported allegations of Meiteis burning religious places, he rebutted that every Meitei household was a temple with separate spaces for traditional deities inside the households. " All these houses have been burnt down but this all could have been avoided if authorities concerned had intervened earlier,” he said.
He further appealed to authorities to provide relief to the people of Manipur and resolve the crisis as swiftly as possible.
