All eligible people with disablities (PwDs) and individuals from the transgender community should get enrolled in the voters’ list for active participation in the electoral process, Imphal East DC Kh Daina said in Imphal Monday. She urged them to exercise their franchise in the time of election by using the facilities of separate queue and others.
Kh Daina was speaking to the media on the sidelines of a one-day orientation programme on Voter Enrolment for Eligible Youths cum linking of Aadhaar number for enrolled LGBT and PwDs in Electoral Roll at Panchayat Bhavan Hall in Imphal East.
Daina, who is also the DEO, Imphal East, said the programme was conducted as a part of the SVEEP activities and a Special Summary Revision with January 2023 as a qualifying date to give a fair and equal chance to all sections of society, especially PwDs and the third gender.
She mentioned that electoral population of PwDs and transgender community witnessed a rapid increase in the last Assembly elections compared to its previous one. It is a good sign that more people are participating in the festival of democracy, she added.
She further highlighted the due importance and positive aspects of linking Aadhaar card with the Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC), and informed that as many as 60 per cent of the voters of Imphal East have already linked their Aadhaar card with EPIC.
The programme was also attended by additional DEO, Imphal East Shamim Ahmad Shah, officials and CSOs representatives among others.
