BSF, CRPF takes over vulnerable sites

As a part of the new security arrangement, paramilitary forces like BSF and CRPF has begun establishing posts at vantage points in vulnerable areas where frequent gunfights had been taking places.

It may be mentioned that the controversial security barricades along the Tiddim road from Phougakchao Ikhai till Kangvai was removed by joint forces while joint operations began in the SoO designated camps.

The Border Security Force (BSF) has established a post at High Canal, Phubala, Bishnupur district while one platoon of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been deployed at Bethel village, Senapati district on Friday as a part of the initiatives taken up to bring peace and normalcy in Manipur.

Phubala and nearby Chingphei ching had seen battle on Tuesday in which a police sub-inspector died of gunshot injuries, while two others were reportedly injured.

The police SI identified as Onkhomang Haokip was posted at Churachandpur district police Reserve line and his last rites was performed on Wednesday.

The CRPF platoon has been deployed above Koutruk village, Imphal West district. Nearly 20 bombs had landed in Koutruk village on Tuesday evening after the Phubala clashes.

Frequent gunfights and bomb attacks at the two areas have been frequently reported during the prevailing conflict.

On various occasions, armed Kuki militants continuing their attack towards Meitei villages have been reported. This has compelled the Meitei villagers to take up arms and retaliate.

Thousands of central paramilitary forces have been deployed to control the turmoil in Manipur though the state has its own strength of around 30,000 security forces.

Manipur Police Control room has been issuing daily reports of operations in different fringe areas to disarm the armed miscreants.

Over 1,000 arms have been recovered so far. Combined security teams are also continuing the work to dismantle illegal bunkers set up at fringe areas by doing regular operations.

Recently, Inspector General of Police (Zone III), Nishit Ujjwal told media that security forces have been deployed at Koutruk, Haraothel, Kharam Thadou, Kadangband and Singda in Imphal West district. The forces were deployed to ensure that armed miscreants do not disturb the atmosphere.

On Thursday, Kuki militants launched an attack by firing towards Naranseina village under Moirang Police Station around 10 pm in Bishnupur district.

Village volunteers and personnel of 2nd IRB also fired back in retaliation, as per sources. The exchange of gunfire lasted till 5 am on Friday. No casualties were reported from the state forces and village volunteers.

Search operations in Imphal West

Meanwhile, Imphal West District Police conducted search operations at Gurudwara area covering Dharmasala, Chamber of Commerce area and Delhi Motors stretch under City Police Station, District Imphal West on Friday.

The operations were conducted from 2. 45 pm to 3.30 pm, during which about 157 persons were verified and four persons were detained and handed over to City PS for further verification, as per sources.
