A book titled ‘History of Revenue Administration in Manipur 1946-2010 A.D’ compiled by United Committee Manipur (UCM) under the aegis of prominent state scholars and academics was released at UCM office, Imphal on Wednesday.
On the occasion, UCM president Joychandra Konthoujam stated that implementation of equal and just rule of law in all corners of Manipur would assure the prevalence of peace and tranquility in the state.
“The book has been published to primarily speculate on the spiking number of illegal villages which sprouted between 1946 to 2010 in Manipur. The data and information used are all derived from official government records,” he said.
He also highlighted that the book threw the spotlight on the historical progression of Manipur as an independent kingdom and state.
The data on the increasing number of villages starting from Manipur’s independence from the British and eventual merger with India till 2010 are included in the book, he added.
He stated that the present land revenue system which shackled a particular community while allowing others to roam free was an unjust system which created rifts between people.
He maintained that Manipur needed a new land revenue system which applied to all communities equally.
“UCM will continue to strive for peace and harmony among all communities in Manipur. No attempt to distort the state’s history and territorial integrity will be tolerated,” he said.
Retired Manipur University professor Naorem Joykumar, retired IAS A Tombikanta, UCM consultative member Yumnamcha Dilipkumar attended the event.
