The body of VDF personnel N Premananda who was found at M Lebanon village under Chakpikarong Police Station in Chandel district has been handed over to family members after a post mortem was conducted at JNIMs Mortuary on Sunday.

The search was launched for the second time on February 2 inside the forest of Phaisi village by a strong, combined force of 130 personnel led by additional SP Thoubal Wangkhomba and additional SP Chandel Amarjit.

Premananda's body was found at M Lebanon village under Chakpikarong Police Station.

The body was kept at M Lebanon village, until a team of State Forensic Science Laboratory and magistrate team arrived to examine.

SP Thoubal H Jogeschandra was alerted by additional SP Thoubal Wangkhomba that the body has been found.

It may be mentioned that JAC of missing N Premananda had imposed an indefinite bandh along NH-102 in Thoubal area since the midnight of January 31.

Demanding the state government for a thorough investigation into the disappearance of VDF personnel Ningombam Premananda in Chandel district, Manipur, the JAC along with various groups on Wednesday blocked the National Highway-102 connecting Imphal and Moreh.

The protesters, however, withdrew the blockade on Wednesday for five days, saying the road blockade would continue if the government failed to act on the matter.

The protesters blocked the movement of vehicles at various parts of NH-102, including at the Thoubal Okram region, demanding the state government and the authorities concerned to start a thorough investigation into the disappearance of VDF Ningombam Premananda who was a part of a poppy destruction team that was camped at Urantop hillside under the Chakpikarong police station of Chandel district, near India-Myanmar border.

The JAC representative, however, agreed to withdraw the protests till February 5, after the meeting with state Works Minister K Govindas.

It may be mentioned that the JAC recently called on chief minister N Biren Singh who announced that the state government will conduct an investigation into the case.

On Facebook, he posted that “the state government will ensure the proper and necessary investigation into the case as well as provide a government job to the wife and assistance to the two children of N Premananda.”
