‘Voluntary Blood Donation Camp and Cancer Awareness Programme’ under the theme ‘Share Your Love by Donating Blood’ was organised by the Lions Club of Imphal Greater at Blood Bank and Transfusion Unit of JNIMS, Imphal.
A release issued by the Lions Club stated that the blood donation camp is the 32nd edition of the voluntary blood donation camp organised by Lions Club of Imphal Greater, Lions Club International 322D while the cancer awareness programme was organised in connection with the International Childhood Cancer Day.
It maintained that during the camp, students of JNIMS and voluntary blood donors of Manipur along with the members of Lions Club of Imphal Greater donated Blood and a total of 63 units of blood were collected. As part of the cancer awareness programme, non-medical items and editable items were distributed to the cancer patients who are undergoing treatment at JNIMS, Imphal, it mentioned.
Lions Club president L Upendro Sharma and JNIMS medical superintendent Kh Lokeshwar spoke on the need for blood donation and appealed to healthy people to donate blood once a year to prevent the shortage of blood, it mentioned. Many other resource persons spoke about the cancer and requirements of blood in treating cancer, it continued.
The event was also attended by the chairperson of the event K Surjit Singh, Lions Club secretary L Ashok Kumar along with other members of the club, it informed. It can be mentioned that during the camp, Lions Club of Imphal Greater member Arun Thongam donated blood for the 23rd time, it added.
