Following every order of Centre saying ‘ha-ji hajur’ without any second thought of merits and demerits will not only break the integrity of Manipur but will also lead to the downfall of every sector, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) vice president Hareshwar Goshwami said on Thursday.

He said, in order to save the state from breaking down further, Manipur needs a prominent leader like former CM O Ibobi who had the courage to defy Centre’s order to safeguard Manipur’s integrity.

Goshwami was hitting back at the union minister of state for External Affairs RK Ranjan who blamed the Congress for the national boundary disputes in the state, while speaking to the media at Congress Bhawan in Imphal.

He said it is unfortunate that the Union MoS, despite his high intellectual knowledge, had tried to distort history to blame the Congress party.

The vice-president clarified that Kabaw Valley was not included in the Treaty of Yandabo and Burma never gave compensation to Manipur for Kabaw Valley. There is no question of Jawaharlal Nehru taking the compensation amount of Kabaw Valley and there was President Rule in Manipur during the Indo-Myanmar Boundary Agreement signed in 1967, he added.

On the other hand, it is sorry to state that the Union MoS had never taken up any initiative to settle the boundary dispute since the last three year, he said, adding, “Instead he is throwing false allegations to the Congress to conceal his mistake”.

Drawing the attention of the Union MoS, the vice-president said, “Please stop the border fencing work until the boundary dispute is settled in the interest of all the people of Manipur”.
