Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykisan on Sunday stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) should agree to the special assembly session demanded by Secular Progressive Front (SPF) and conduct a floor test if it is confident enough to prove its majority in the house.

Speaking to the media in Imphal West on Sunday, he said that the prevailing political issue amid the COVID-19 pandemic is caused by the BJP government and not the Congress party. It began after the BJP’s major coalition partner National People's Party (NPP) expressed dissatisfaction with the policy of the BJP and withdrew their support, he said.

He also alleged that the BJP is desperate enough to prove its majority that the party even invited the three BJP MLAs, who resigned from the party membership, to be a part of BJP again.  Every politician faced various problems and difficulties while contesting to become an MLA or a minister. However, the decision of four NPP ministers to resign from their portfolios and withdraw their support to the BJP is a clear indication that they were betrayed by the BJP, Joykisan said.

Member of NPP and former minister of health, L Jayantakumar had also spoken about his dissatisfaction while working together with the BJP government. The decision of four NPP ministers to withdraw their support to the BJP was a historic moment in the State, he added.

When leaders of Congress party visited the state, they were kept in quarantine centres and the Congress party was silent about it as it was for the welfare of the people and the State, said Joykisan. However, he alleged that BJP leaders who visited the state were not kept in quarantine centres.

Former MLA of Henglep assembly constituency, T T Haokip said that he took the decision to resign as an MLA because he is against many policies and programs of the BJP government. He said that the BJP government did not listen to the advice and suggestions of the MLAs as it was a government run by a very few selective individuals.

He said that the no confidence motion moved by the Congress party should be conducted by calling a special assembly session at the earliest.
