SS Olish of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday recorded a landslide victory over her lone rival, Langhu Paulhring Anal of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), by over 27,000 votes, a record for the district.
Of the 46,882 votes cast by voters in the recently concluded 12th Manipur State Assembly Election, 2022 in respect of 41-Chandel (ST) Assembly Constituency, Olish got 37,066 votes (79.06%) while her rival got 9,725 votes (20.74).
As many as 91 voters (0.19%) pressed the NOTA button.
This is the third attempt for SS Olish who contested as an Independent candidate in 2012 and then as BJP candidate in 2017.
Letpao Haokip wins in Tengnoupal
Sitting MLA of the NPP, Letpao Haokip, who shifted to the BJP and contested from Tengnoupal, 42-Chandel (ST) also won, defeating his closest rival, D Korungthang of the NPF by 5,203 votes.
Of the 36,714 votes cast, Letpao got 19,316 (52.61%) while Korungthang got 14,113 votes (38.44%), Morung Makunga (Congress) got 2,540 votes (6.92%), while Kh David Maring (RPI-Athawale), Jamkholun Haokip (Independent) and Kohai Moshilpa (Independent) got 37, 26 and 654 votes respectively. 29 people voted for none of the above.
It is worth mentioning here that Letpao Haokip was an MLA of 41-Chandel AC under the NPP ticket in the 2017 election. However, in December of 2021, he joined the BJP and filed his nomination as a candidate of the party from 42-Chandel or Tengnoupal Assembly Constituency.
