Condemning the act of Thangmeiband United Club (TUC) for involving in election related matters which is jurisdiction of the Election Commission, BJP candidate of Thangmeiband Jotin Waikhom asked the club members to remain a neutral body or get involved in politics openly.
In connection with an alleged pre-poll violence that took place in Thangmeiband AC on February 21, the TUC had announced the boycott of Jotin Waikhom.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday in Imphal, Jotin explained that supporters of his JD-U rival candidate Kh Joykishan interrupted an election campaign of BJP, which is a total violation of the democratic rights.
He said, following the incident the members of TUC summoned him and his workers in a location at Thangmeiband as if they are the one who holds the law.
During which I explained to them that they are not the authority to question on election related issues and as a result they announced the boycott, he added.
Moreover the members of the club physically assaulted one of his workers K Norendro Singh on February 22 after he questioned the reason for the boycotting, Jotin alleged.
Allowing election activities of JD-U to conduct freely inside Thangmeiband and imposing restriction on election activities by BJP clearly proved that TUC is not a neutral body, it is an ally of the Thangmeiband JD-U candidate, he contended.
In regards to the following issues a complaint has been lodged to the District Election Officer of Imphal West and also to the Imphal police station for appropriate legal action, he informed.
The BJP never uses any sorts of violence related with election, he said adding every election related issue will be solved legally.
