Members of the Joint Coordination Committee on Wildlife and Biodiversity (JCCWB) in Manipur, along with staff from the Range Office Kakching, successfully rescued a bird trapped in a net set by poachers at a lake near Sora Samuching in Kakching district on Thursday around 7 am.
Speaking to media persons, convenor of the JCCWB, Ningthoujam Romesh stated that the bird was safely released at the site. He mentioned that these nets are often set at night and retrieved early in the morning. Romesh also assured that an investigation would be launched into the poachers responsible.
Despite various awareness programmes aimed at protecting wildlife and the environment, many individuals continue to engage in such activities for their personal benefits.
Romesh maintained that trapping and killing wild birds is punishable under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. He further urged the public to protect wild birds and refrain from such illegal activities.
