Bir Tikendrajit International Airport to be full-fledged international airport by 2025

The Airport Authority of India is targeting to complete the upgradation of the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, says Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday informed that the Airport Authority of India is targeting to complete the upgradation of the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal into a full-fledged international airport by 2025.

He was replying to a starred question raised by Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba on the floor of Parliament seeking the ministry’s reply on the status of the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport.

The MP from Manipur also questioned the possibility of introducing regular night flight service from Delhi to Imphal and vice-versa.

In this regard, the Union minister replied, as the Indian domestic aviation sector has deregulated after the repealing of the Air Corporation Act in 1994, the air services depend on the interest of the airline companies.

However, to promote air connectivity, the ministry has been regularly in touch with the airline companies to convey taking up such services, he added.
