One of the historic places of Manipur, Bijoy Govinda Thangapat, a place where socio-religious festival Heikru Hidongba is held, was handed over to the public after the completion of its renovation on Friday. Along with this, Heikru Hidongba Hall was also inaugurated.
Addressing the function as chief guest, MLA RK Imo Singh said Bijoy Govinda Thangapat (moat), having its own historical significance, the state government had initiated to develop this place as one of the tourist spots of Manipur. The renovation and beautification of the surrounding areas of the moat as well as purification of water bodies was started from the past one year costing a total budget of around Rs 4.5 crore, the MLA informed.
He further said the whole developmental work was done after due consultation of concerned officials. The purification of water bodies of moat was carried out under advance in-situ bioremediation and restoration of water, ponds and water bodies. Considering the essence of water bodies in view of climate change impact as another reason, this purification work was started with the concept of Go Green Mission. The treatment of surface water bodies is performed with the support of solar panel energy.
While appealing to keep the premises clean, he said that the role of people settling in surrounding areas of the moat is highly important to make it attractive. People should refrain from anything that can pollute the beauty of the moat. Without support and cooperation from people, the place cannot be developed as one of the tourist spots.
He assured that the problem of tap water scarcity would be addressed very soon. At present, the constituency is managed by two reservoirs. However, one reservoir which is under construction at Sagolband Tera will be commissioned within five to six months and one more reservoir is also going to be constructed under AMRUT-II. Besides, a water ATM is also going to be installed in two different places of Sagolband Constituency, he said.
Other dignitaries who attended the function were president of Bijoygovinda Sevayet Committee, RK Rashamani Singh; ex-councillor of IMC Ward number 7, RK Jiten Singh; ex-councillor of IMC Ward number 10, S Tiken Singh and ex-councillor of IMC Ward number 24, G Bino as president and guests of honour respectively.
