The Manipur government is yet to launch any work to repair the Bailey bridge at Barak River at Biisho village under Purul Police Station in Senapati district, sources said.
The bridge, which connects Maram and Purul in Senapati district, was left on the verge of collapsing after a 12-wheeler heavy vehicle crossed it on Tuesday.
However, a contractor who was working for NREGS used his JCB to pave a path on a paddy field and the commuters could pass through it now. Since the Barak River remains dry at present, vehicles can cross it and pass through the newly created path. But they would no longer be able to cross the river, without using the bridge, if the water level of the river rises.
