The Assam Rifles has refuted a news article published in the June 24 edition of this local daily with regards to tension in Kangpokpi area between womenfolk and Assam Rifles security column.
A statement issued by the PRO defence wing of Imphal/Kohima clarified that a team of Assam Rifles deployed in the area of Hathilkhowa checked a house for construction of a bunker as there were reports of firing from the same place during a previous firing incident. As there was no such construction observed, the team returned, it said.
Later, on June 24, a large crowd of approximately around 2,000 people gathered in Kanglatombi and started demanding the withdrawal of Assam Rifles from the area.
