The Modi battalion of Assam Rifles apprehended four persons in possession of live AK-57 ammunition at Bijoypur, Pallel in Kakching district on Tuesday, stated a release issued by IGAR (South).
A mobile vehicle check post was established by the Assam Rifles at Bijoypur, Pallel in Kakching district, it stated. Four individuals who were moving on their two wheelers from Kakching to Pallel were intercepted by the check post at 4.30 am on Tuesday, it stated.
During the search, 25 rounds of AK-47 along with one magazine was seized from them, it mentioned. The individuals were handed over to Kakching Police Station for further interrogation, it added.
Meanwhile, the Assam Rifles organised a wreath laying ceremony on Wednesday for 44175 Jam (Late) Amar Singh Gurung of 4 Assam Rifles who was Killed in Action on Jun 14, 1956, it mentioned.
Jam (Late) Amar Singh Gurung was part of a road opening column at Mao Town when his own troops came under heavy volume of fire from insurgents, which was immediately retaliated with fire, it mentioned.
In the ensuing gun fight with the insurgents Jam (Late) Amar Singh Gurung sustained bullet wounds and succumbed to his injuries, thereby laying down his life as supreme sacrifice for the nation, it added.
