A combined team of 33 Assam Rifles, Imphal West commando and New Keithelmanbi Police Station personnel recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition during a cordon and search operation at Aithu village area, New Keithelmanbi, Kangpokpi district around 11.30 am on Tuesday.
The recovered arms and ammunition are five single bore Rifles, four country-made weapons (modified GI pipe), 36 single-bore rounds, one walkie-talkie set along with a charger and 8 mobile phones.
A case has been registered at New Keithelmanbi Police Station and investigations are underway.
According to the Police Control Room, firing by miscreants and burning of a few houses was reported from adjoining areas of Thinungei Mathak, Phubala and Pangjang areas. Security Forces rushed to the spot and repelled the crowd and controlled the situation.
On Monday, a combined team of District Police Jiribam and Central Security Forces arrested 03 (three) persons at Lalpani Bazar, Jiribam District and seized 13 (thirteen) nos. of soap caps containing 166.93 grams of suspected brown sugar.
A total of 119 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 879 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the State, the Police said.
Movement of 212 vehicles on NH-37 and 121 (one hundred twenty-one) vehicles on NH-2 with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, the police control room said.
