Arambam Nanao Death Case: Accused remanded in 15-day judicial custody

The investigating officer of Arambam Nanao death case submitted before the court that the case is in good progress and requires further investigation without hampering and tampering.

The duty magistrate, Imphal West on Monday remanded SI Jitendra in a 15-day judicial custody till May 30, in connection with the alleged custodial death case of Arambam Nanao.

The investigating officer of the case submitted before the court that the case is in good progress and requires further investigation without hampering and tampering.  It was submitted that the post mortem report, CDR and SDR report of the accused and other important persons for collecting evidence were still awaited.

Therefore, the investigating officer prayed for judicial custody of the accused so as to enable collection of more evidence and completion of the investigation of the case while the accused is under judicial remand and free from any influence from any angles.

It was also submitted that a police summon has been sent to sub-inspector (SI) Kangabam Tejkumar to appear before the investigating officer of the case on May 14. It was also submitted that SI K Tejkumar Singh of Commando, Imphal East was out of station for medical treatment.

Suspended cop SI Jitendro, the main accused in the alleged murder of Arambam Nanao, a goldsmith, had reportedly named Kangabam Tejkumar, who is also his batch-mate and another for their influence in the arrest of the victim.

The accused was admitted to have committed the offence and revealed that on the request of his friend K Tejkumar Singh of Imphal East Commando as well as on receipt of the complaint report lodged by one Kangabam Jackey Singh, he arrested the accused person in civil dress and brought him to the police station with the help of others.

It may be mentioned that the sub-inspector of Manipur police Th Jitendro Singh was suspended on May 3 in connection with the death of Arambam Nanao in police custody, allegedly after facing torture by the Imphal West district police.
