Wabagai Assembly Constituency social worker Sakir Ahmed on Sunday strongly condemned the Manipur government’s decision to restrict the use of the ‘Chief Ministergi Hakshelgi Tengbang’ (CMHT) card to only government hospitals.

He emphasised that the CMHT card, which benefits 6.80 lakh people, is crucial for those who cannot afford private healthcare.

Sakir Ahmed pointed out that the two major government hospitals, RIMS and JNIMS, are already overburdened, with only 1,074 and 576 beds, respectively. He argued that these hospitals alone cannot accommodate all CMHT cardholders and stressed the importance of allowing private hospitals to accept the card.

Sakir Ahmed stressed that suspending the CMHT card in private hospitals amid these challenging times will further worsen the plight of the poor. He further appealed to the chief minister N Biren to address these issues for the welfare of Manipur’s people.
